Pantone recently selected “Marsala” – a rich, earthy brown hue named for a Sicilian wine – its 2015 Color of the Year. The choice will influence fashion, beauty, home decor and other design in the coming year.

Marsala is a departure from the more tropical tones, such as Tangerine Tango (2012), Emerald (2013) and last year's Radiant Orchid, that have dominated since Pantone began choosing a color of the year in 2000. This "subtly seductive shade", as described by Pantone's executive director, is more in keeping with the sophisticated, red-brown tones of a number of our Trex decking colors.

"Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in the company press release. "This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”

Pantone is a company known best for its standardized color matching system. It's code system helps designers and graphic artists choose specific colors. Marsala's numeric code is Pantone 18-1438.

Here are five of our favorite Trex deck builds which we think evoke the beauty of this deep earthy tone.

This warm Pennsylvania deck features our Trex Transcend decking in Fire Pit. This classic earth tone lives right where spicy barbecue meets a fiery sunset. Here, it's accented with Transcend Gravel Path boards and used as a cocktail rail over our Gravel Path railing and Charcoal Black balusters.
