With warmer weather and outdoor living season quickly approaching, what’s the world looking forward to the most this outdoor living season? As it turns out, simply doing nothing at all.

According to a new Trex international survey, conducted in Australia, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, many global citizens (82 percent) just want to relax. Also ranking high were spending time with family (62 percent), enjoying a good book (58 percent) and cooking/grilling out (54 percent).

As getting away to a vacation home or country cabin becomes harder and harder, more people are looking to their own spaces to create an "escape" for anytime they want – without the additional expense or hassle of taking a trip.

Materials Matter
In fact, the majority of survey respondents (58 percent) indicated that they would use their outdoor living space nearly every day during the prime spring and summer seasons if possible. As a result, this added emphasis on outdoor living has placed extra attention on the materials being chosen for decks and patios around the world. While wood and concrete still are popular, eco-friendly alternatives like Trex’s high-performance, wood-alternative composite decking are emerging as ideal solutions for beautiful – and low-maintenance – outdoor living spaces abroad.

Inviting Additions
Beyond building materials, the high popularity of dining and entertaining al fresco has inspired many global homeowners to transform their backyards with custom spaces for grilling and dining, as well as cozy nooks for conversation and cocktails. In fact, 66 percent indicated that having an outdoor living space makes them more inclined to invite friends and neighbors over to entertain at home. Thus, it’s no surprise that homeowners around the world are looking to upgrade their outdoor living spaces this year – with improvements both big and small. According to the Trex survey, approximately 41 percent plan to purchase new outdoor furniture this year, while 32 percent indicate they will likely buy a new umbrella or moveable shade.

So tell us, how will you enjoy your outdoor living space this season?
