Trex is honored to be a small part of the 70th anniversary commemoration of Operation Overlord at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va. The memorial commemorates the 1944 Allied invasion of Europe that started the march against Nazi Germany.

The June 6 anniversary event will honor the Bedford Boys, a company of young soldiers from Bedford who served at D-Day; 19 lost their lives during the invasion. With a population of about 3,200 in 1944, Bedford suffered the severest loss of life per capita in the country as a result of the invasion.

Anniversary preparations are under way at the war memorial site which is expected to draw record crowds for the weekend event. Trex Company donated Transcend Tiki Torch decking boards to replace the splintering tops of wooden benches that sit under plaques honoring every soldier killed at D-Day.

A parade, outdoor movie night, performance by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and appearance by the Golden Knights U.S. Army parachute team are just some of the scheduled events. Several hundred D-Day veterans are expected to attend; the youngest of the D-Day veterans is 87 years old.

The memorial opened in 2001. About 70,000 people visit the war memorial every year. To learn more about the memorial and anniversary event, visit the D-Day memorial website.

We will post more information and photographs after the Trex installation is complete.
