Indianapolis Home Helps Wounded Veterans Adapt to Civilian Life

WINCHESTER, Va., Sept. 16, 2014 – In its ongoing commitment to supporting U.S. military personnel, Trex, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing products, has donated its high-performance decking products to Global Training Ministries’ warrior transition home in Indianapolis. The residence is undergoing renovations and expanding to include new spaces to better serve the needs of its residents.

Among the new additions to the home is an outdoor deck area where residents can relax and enjoy what the organization refers to as “sky time.” The deck also will provide extra space for meetings and socializing.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the support of Trex,” said Jim Peters, director of Global Training Ministries. “The new deck space will be enjoyed by every one of our residents and will provide them with a beautiful setting where they can relax, refocus and recharge. ‘Sky time’ is a critical component of our program that helps return these men to a safe place – mentally, physically and spiritually.”

Trex donated its top-of-the-line Trex Transcend® decking in Rope Swing for the warrior transition home project. Designed to outperform wood, composite and PVC for decades, Trex Transcend is engineered with an exclusive low-sheen, high-traffic formulation that resists fading, staining and scratching – and will not rot, warp, crack or splinter. Upkeep is hassle-free and requires no sanding, staining or painting.

“We are truly honored to be part of such a noble project and to provide an outdoor oasis for those brave American heroes returning from active duty,” said Ronald W. Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex Company. “It’s a privilege to be able to give something back to those who have given so much to our country.”

Global Training Ministries works with active-duty combat injured troops to provide housing, among other support services, for wounded men in transition from active duty. Each resident receives professional assistance and personal attention during this period, which is statistically proven to be the most difficult and dangerous time for wounded veterans. To date, more than 80 men have been aided by the Global Training Ministries transition home, many staying in the home for as long as six weeks.

This latest project is just one example of Trex’s commitment to U.S. military personnel. Earlier this year, Trex donated more than 1,700 feet of Trex Transcend decking to create benches surrounding the central plaza of the newly restored D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va. The
company also works with military veteran search firms to help place veterans looking for employment and encourages job applicants with military backgrounds to apply for open positions at Trex. For more information about Trex, visit trex.com.
