“How much will my deck cost?” is one of the most common questions we hear and one of the most difficult to answer. Until now.

With the launch of our new online Deck Cost Calculator, you can plan and budget your new outdoor living space with more confidence in the cost estimate of the Trex decking materials.

The Trex Deck Cost Calculator, found at trex.com, estimates the material costs of your deck build based upon the information you provide for the size of your deck and the materials and products you intend to use for the substructure, decking and railing.

"Planning a new outdoor living space can be a major undertaking," said Ronald W. Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. "The Trex Cost Calculator offers valuable guidance to consumers in the early stages of planning to help them make informed decisions about their outdoor living projects, and addresses the all-important cost question up front so that consumers can feel confident in their choices."

The tool guides you through four simple steps:

  • Deck size – Using a diagram with sliding scales, you can insert the dimensions of your desired deck, either in feet or meters, up to 1,500 square feet (136 square meters).
  • Substructure – A deck’s substructure is a critical component of a build, but often overlooked. With our tool, you have the option of selecting your existing substructure, a new pressure-treated wood frame, or Trex Elevations® steel deck framing.
  • Decking – You can then select your decking choice from amongst Trex’s three high-performance collections – Trex Transcend®, Trex Enhance® and Trex Select®.
  • Railing – For your final step, you can choose to add any of our railing collections – Trex Transcend®, Trex Reveal® and Trex Select® – to round out your unique design.
Once you’ve entered all of your choices, the cost calculator provides you with a cost estimate for the Trex materials that you have selected. You can email and print your selections to allow you to compare Trex to other products as you finalize your plan.

The cost calculator does not provide you with a labor cost if you choose to hire a deck builder, due to the widely varying rates that contractors charge. Labor and installation costs account for nearly two-thirds of the final deck costs. Of course, if you opt to build the deck yourself, those charges are negated altogether. Other factors, such as your geographic location, site, design, number of staircases, fascia and accessories, can affect your final costs as well.
