Product brings both aesthetics and performance to the city’s newest waterfront space
WINCHESTER, Va., Aug. 29, 2011 – As part of a new, ongoing effort to revitalize Philadelphia’s waterfront, mayor Michael Nutter recently unveiled the Race Street Pier, a 43,200-square-foot riverside public park, featuring an upper level boardwalk designed exclusively with Trex Accents® decking.
Trex Accents offers a subtle wood-grain texture that has the same elegant beauty as wood. With a 25-year Limited Residential Warranty and a 10-year Limited Commercial Warranty, Accents offers superior durability meant to withstand heavy use and harsh elements, while retaining its beauty for years of enjoyment.
“With its superior durability, eco-friendliness and classic aesthetics, Trex Accents is the ideal product for a project of this scope,” said Harry Laspee of AP Construction, which built the boardwalk. “The city wanted a product that would withstand constant weathering and heavy foot traffic, while also adding to the beauty of the entire development. On all counts, Trex delivers.”
Race Street Pier, which opened to the public on May 12, is located directly under the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, one of the world’s largest suspension bridges. The park is the first of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s projects to rebuild and rejuvenate the city’s waterfront. Featuring lush landscaping and scenic river views, Race Street Pier offers both local residents and tourists a spacious area for picnicking, socializing and exercising.
“This spectacular public space is the next step forward in building a world-class waterfront in Philadelphia, and we’re pleased to help play a role in its development,” said Ron Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. “The city can be proud of its beautiful, eco-friendly design, and we hope Philadelphia and its visitors will enjoy it for years to come.”
