Trex Tops Annual Reader Surveys – Greenest Decking and Brand of Choice
WINCHESTER, Va., March 10, 2014 – Awards season is here – and Trex is on top once again. Trex Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing, recently received top honors from two of the industry’s most respected reader surveys – Green Builder Media’s 2014 Reader’s Choice Awards and Peninsula Publishing’s 2013 Building Products Brand Survey – underscoring the brand’s leadership and preference among architects, builders and contractors and other trade professionals.
In the decking products category, Green Builder Media 2014 Reader’s Choice Awards, voters selected Trex® decking as the “greenest” in the industry. This accolade comes on the heels of recognition by the readers of Builder & Developer, Green Home Builder and BuilderBytes.com, who collectively ranked Trex the number one preferred decking brand in the industry in Peninsula Publishing’s 2013 Building Products Brand Survey.
“It is always rewarding to have our products and work recognized by our valued pro partners and industry experts,” said Ronald W. Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. “We are committed to setting the highest standard in the industry and to continuing to elevate the entire outdoor living category.”
Greenest Decking
Built on green principles and values, Trex products offer a truly environmentally responsible choice to consumers. As the largest polyethylene plastic recycler in the United States, Trex turns commercial and household plastics like newspaper sleeves and sandwich bags – into eco-friendly outdoor living products. In addition, Trex salvages and keeps more than 400 million pounds of plastic and wood scrap out of landfills each year.
The entire high-performance Trex decking portfolio – including Trex Transcend®, Trex Enhance® and Trex Select® – is manufactured from more than 95 percent recycled and reclaimed materials, an achievement confirmed through the International Code Council Evaluation Service® (ICC-ES) SAVE Verification for Recycled Content*. In fact, Trex was the first company in the wood-alternative decking category to receive such distinction.
“Providing eco-friendly decking and other outdoor living products is at the core of our business and something about which we are deeply proud,” noted Kaplan. “Being recognized as the ‘green’ leader in the industry by Green Builder once again this year confirms that our customers – both contractors and consumers – understand the importance of environmentally conscious building. We’re happy to be the go-to resource for their eco-friendly outdoor living needs.”
In addition to decking, Trex offers railing, stairs and a steel substructure made, in part, from recycled materials. Trex Transcend and Trex Select railing both contain 40 percent reclaimed wood fiber by weight, while Trex Reveal® Aluminum Railing, Trex Spiral Stairs™ and Trex Elevations® Steel Deck Framing are 100 percent recyclable, renewable resources.
And, new this year, Trex Outdoor Lighting now includes both Deck Lighting and Landscape Lighting, all featuring CREE® LED components. This innovative lighting technology surpasses traditional incandescent lighting efficiency by using up to nine times less energy and eliminating worry of voltage drops.
Brand of Choice
The annual Brand Preference Survey highlights the most preferred products among homebuilders, purchasing agents, architects, interior designers and residential contractors with major buying responsibilities. Peninsula Publishing solicited feedback from professionals in a year-long reader poll conducted through its print titles, websites and LinkedIn and Facebook pages. Manufacturers were ranked in more than 50 different categories, including decking where Trex, once again, claimed the number one spot for brand recognition and preference.
“This recognition further reinforces Trex’s position as the undisputed industry leader in our category,” said Kaplan. “We’re especially proud that this survey reflects the opinions of our valued professional partners, who acknowledge and appreciate the brand’s high standards for product performance and aesthetics.”
The March issue of Green Builder magazine will include comprehensive data from the 2014 Reader’s Choice Awards. Green Builder Media is the leading North American company in the residential building industry focused on green building and responsible growth. It provides information that inspires a commitment to sustainable living.
The results of Peninsula Publishing’s 2013 Building Products Brand Survey appeared in the February issues of both Builder & Developer and Green Home Builder, and may also be viewed online at www.bdmag.com.
