App Makes It Possible to Design a Custom Railing System with Touch of a Finger

WINCHESTER, Va., May 29, 2013 – Trex Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing, recently updated its popular Trex Visualizer app available exclusively for iPad with a Railing Configurator module that allows users to virtually mix and match posts, caps, rails and balusters to create more than 1,200 potential design combinations.

Available as a free download from the Apple iTunes Store, the Trex Visualizer assists homeowners in exploring deck design and color options and sharing their ideas with others. Individuals who already have downloaded the tool since its launch last year will be able to add railing functionality by simply updating the app.

“Trex offers the most comprehensive railing portfolio in the industry, and this resource allows consumers to experiment with all the different components available to select the look and style of railing they prefer for their decks,” said Ronald Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. “With the new railing module, users may now design a customized outdoor living space complete with railing on their iPads – whenever and wherever creativity strikes.”

Gain Inspiration
With the Trex Railing Configurator, users can select from numerous backdrops to emulate their own outdoor living environments. They then can try out a multitude of modular railing options – from contemporary to classic designs – in a variety of colors in order to choose the railing system that best compliments their personal tastes and their home’s architectural style. Components from Trex’s three railing collections – Trex Transcend®, Trex Select® and new Trex Reveal™ – are represented and users can virtually add Trex Deck Lighting™ to rails and post caps as a finishing touch.

Share Ideas
Once a personalized railing is selected, the Trex Railing Configurator automatically generates a list of components used in that look to make the purchase process easier. In addition, a finished photo may be saved to the iPad for future reference, or emailed directly to friends, family or potential contractors for idea sharing and feedback. A menu bar at the top of the Visualizer screen includes links to the Trex website that will allow users to easily find local Trex dealers and contractors.

“Designing an outdoor living space from scratch can be both exciting and overwhelming, but the Trex Visualizer app provides a user-friendly way to experiment with the many decking and railing choices available,” said Kaplan. “Trex is constantly developing tools and resources for homeowners that make it more convenient and simple to plan a dream outdoor living space – and to effectively collaborate with contractors to turn that dream into reality.”
