New Facility to Add Manufacturing Capacity and Create More Than 150 Jobs
WINCHESTER, Va., November 4, 2019 – Trex Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of high-performance, wood-alternative decking and railing, and leader in low-maintenance outdoor living products, has broken ground on a new manufacturing facility in Frederick County, Virginia.
Trex is expanding its manufacturing capacity with the addition of a new decking plant situated adjacent to its existing production site to meet continued growth and projected product demand. Being built by Shockey Construction, the new facility is expected to bring more than 150 jobs to Winchester and Frederick County.
“This is a very exciting time for Trex with all signs pointing to continued growth and escalating demand,” said Jim Cline, president and CEO of Trex Company. “Given our strategic focus on delivering best-in-class products and driving increased conversion from the wood decking market, expanding our production capacity and workforce was inevitable. We’ve been planning this for some time and have been eager to break ground and welcome new talent into the Trex family.”
The new facility is part of a $200 million multi-faceted, multi-year capital investment program that will allow Trex to increase production output for future projected growth. In addition to expanding capacity in Virginia, Trex is also in the process of installing additional capacity at its Nevada site that began coming online earlier this year. The additional lines are scheduled to come online in the second quarter of 2020.
The new Virginia capacity will begin to come online in the first quarter of 2021. Recruitment efforts are currently underway for staffing the new plant. Trex plans to hire and train new employees for positions in manufacturing, skilled trades and engineering.
“We appreciate Trex’s continued investment in Frederick County,” said Patrick Barker, executive director of the Frederick County Economic Development Authority. “For more than 25 years, Trex has been a community partner and important contributor to our local economy – recognized globally for its efforts in sustainability and product innovation.”
Trex opened its first production lines in Virginia in 1993 with 36 employees – 12 of whom still work for the company. Over the past decade, Trex has transformed into a $680 million manufacturer with industry-leading brand recognition and unsurpassed channel placement in more than 6,700 retail outlets across more than 40 countries worldwide. Today, Trex employs more than 1,200 workers globally, the majority of whom reside in the Washington, D.C., northern Virginia, West Virginia and suburban Maryland areas.
“Frederick County is our home and we are pleased to be able to contribute to its cultural and economic vitality,” Cline said. “The people and businesses of both Winchester City and Frederick County truly support one another and are invested in each other’s success. We feel very fortunate to be part of such a supportive local community.”
