Q&A With Liam Murray Of Liam's House
UK home and lifestyle blogger Liam of "Liam's Home" transformed his small patio area into a garden paradise using Trex Transcend Island Mist decking. Not wanting to deal with the annual maintenance needs of a wood deck, Liam was drawn to the low-maintenance qualities of Trex decking. What this do-it-youselfer found out is how easy Trex is to install. Here is his story.

How did you come to choose Trex for your project?
“We wanted to transform our garden into a multi-functional space with a deck that is low maintenance, so we choose Trex because we'll never need to paint, stain or worry about the decking rotting.”

Did you have any hesitations or concerns about choosing Trex?
“Our only concern was our lack of knowledge about the product that we were setting out to build. Although the user manuals were helpful, there was a lot of information to take in, some of which wasn't relevant to our build. AS this was a DIY project, it was worrying that mistakes during the build could be very costly (but) we realized Trex was straightforward to install. ”
Which Trex decking collection did you use and why?
“We choose Trex Transcend decking. The Island Mist color fit with our home decor perfectly.” Did you use any of the Trex online resources or tools during your design or building process? “We used the online cost calculator, which was very helpful for estimating costs.”
Describe your experience building with Trex materials?
“We found the process straightforward which we weren't expecting initially. We really enjoyed the build and it gave us great satisfaction seeing the deck come together.”
How do you use your Trex deck?
“We use our deck for outdoor dining and socializing. It has added a new space to our home which we have accessorized with furniture and planters.”
What is your favorite aspect or feature of your Trex deck?
“Our favorite feature has to be the color we chose. The Island Mist decking looks so clean and modern and really complements our home décor well. The color is a timeless classic that will work with anything we choose to add to our garden.”
Did you incorporate any other Trex products into your build?
“We added lighting to our deck. It has really added the wow factor, giving us a great view in the garden during the darker evenings and winter months.”
Do you have any tips or advice for other homeowners who may be considering using Trex?
“Cut the costs and build the deck yourself. We hadn't done anything like this previously, but the process was really simple and got easier as we progressed with the build.”
