Q: I have a very large umbrella that mounts with an X with 5/16 lag bolts. I have extra wood braces under the boards to mount it. In the event that I move or get rid of the umbrella do they make plugs large enough to cover the holes left from the bolts?

This plug would be slightly larger than the hole you will have and would not fit in the hole left from the bolts. Q: For repairing surface damage to trex decking, could one use the plug material for a repair. by heating the plug with a heat gun to the consistency of a paste then apply to the damaged area? If not what could Trex recommend for this situation?

  • A: Scratching is considered normal wear and tear and is not covered under the Trex limited warranty. A big dog, heavy furniture, or spiked shoes might be able to scratch Trex. First try cleaning the area as the "scratches" are generally mud and light scratches that will weather out over time. Fortunately, Trex furniture is fairly soft and should not scratch many surfaces. However, if you would like to use felt pads to prevent any sort of light scratches. Trex never recommends using sandpaper on your deck to try to remove or reduce the appearance of scratches. For more severe scratches/gouges, the use of a heat gun can help reduce the appearance of scratches to a degree. Extreme care should be taken when using a heat gun. Holding the heat gun too close to the decking surface can burn the surface and cause severe damage to the material. Do not apply direct heat at a stationary point, but move the heat gun back and forth over the scratch very carefully to help blend the area together. If there is a deep gouge, there is not a filler or caulk we can recommend as there is nothing that will work well with our material or hold over a long period of time. Exterior grade caulk could be attempted as these do come in various colors but may not match exactly. DONT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!!

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT..and buy the Cortex or Starborn plugs instead. The Trex brand plugs are not cut directly from Trex boards and are a terrible color match. The Trex plugs are injection molded out of the same material, but do not even remotely match and stick out like a sore thumb. In fact, I recommend not using Trex at all and using a different brand of composite decking, because Trex also has terrible customer service.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Horrible!

We bought plugs from various sources and they were the actual plugs from a piece of Trex. These are plastic and hollow in the middle. They don’t match the Biscayne. If they weren’t the only ones we could find I wouldn’t have used them!!!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

I could not purchase plugs from the company that sold me the Trex boards, I had to order them on line from Trex. They cost $14.99 for a 2 oz pack, but shipping was $46.10. I found this unacceptable.

No, I do not recommend this product.
