Q: what is the gap created using the universal hidden fastener? Trex recommends 3/16, but does not say in any literature what the universal fastener gap is, please advise. Is the gap adjustable in some way with these fasteners?

  • A: Hello, thank you for reaching out with your question. I understand wanting to confirm the spacing when using hidden fasteners. The gap created when using Trex universal hidden fasteners is 1/2 inch. This spacing is built into the fastener design and is not adjustable. Unlike face-fastening methods where spacing can be set manually, the universal hidden fastener is designed to consistently create this fixed gap between boards during installation. Q: Can I lay trex over the flor of an existing deck made of PT lumber?

  • A: Hello PhilClement, thank you for reaching out. Our boards can be installed over another surface as long as they are elevated at least 1.5" for airflow under the decking. We would not recommend laying the decking flat on top of another deck. Q: How does this took allow you to screw all the way down in 1 step but without it, you need to screw in 2 steps, screw half way then place the next board to finish screwing?

  • A: The screw is slightly angled towards the installer that allows the open wing of the fastener to be tilted upward so the next board can be pushed in while the screw is fully tightened. Q: When is stringer spacing requirement for trex enhance stair treads
