Just outside Atlanta, in the heart of historic Marietta, Georgia, HGTV® Smart Home 2024 blends cutting-edge innovation with modern living thanks in part to outdoor living solutions from Trex.

This year’s home is a not a new build; rather a renovation of a dated property. Smart features and clever design turned this 1980s-era home into an innovative mid-century marvel. Neutral minimalism combined with splashes of color and texture come together to create a cozy nest. Natural wood tones, sun-washed airy spaces and a flexible, multi-functional design give this home a luxurious yet practical feel.

The backyard transformation is one of the more stunning results of this makeover, with Trex® outdoor living products transforming an ignored space into a showstopper.

Meticulously crafted to enhance functionality, aesthetics and enjoyability, the updated backyard is barely recognizable. Replacing a painted wooden deck with beautiful and durable Trex composite decking makes for an jaw-dropping experience. Transcend® Lineage™ decking in Carmel sets the stage for the transformation. Carmel’s soft creamy hue has just the right mix of toasty browns and subtle greys undertones. It’s beautiful while not too overpowering.

Chosen for its exceptional durability, low-maintenance requirements and stunning aesthetic, Lineage is one of the newest products in the Trex decking collection. Introduced in 2022, Lineage is made with heat-mitigating technology in the top layer, making it cooler than many other deck boards of similar color.* Lineage comes in five, on-trend tranquil colors. Like Trex’s other decking collections, Lineage offers the rich look of natural wood without the drawbacks of rotting, warping or splintering. It never needs painting or staining, like wood, and requires only an occasional soap-and-water cleanup. It’s backed by a 50-year limited fade & stain warranty so it stays looking like new for generations.

Complimenting the elegant decking are two variations of contemporary Trex Signature® aluminum railing in Charcoal Black. The sleek transparent panels of Trex Signature Glass railing provide unobstructed views from the deck into the yard, creating an open and inviting atmosphere for entertaining, relaxing or any other activities. Seamlessly integrating into the home’s modern design ethos, mesh panels on the stairs blend style and functionality while adding a quirky touch of architectural flair.

Providing protection from the hot Georgia sun, and further defining the outdoor living space, is a Trex® Pergola. This all-aluminum, powder-coated Solis model in Jet Black complements the black railing and taupe deck boards, while defining a cozy seating retreat under the protection of a shade canopy that blocks 93% of UV rays. The powder-coat surface offers durability that resists chipping, scratching, wearing and fading, ensuring the color stays true and vibrant. Stainless steel cables run the perimeter of the canopy, which can be easily detached in storms, evenly distributing tension and reducing wind flap and extending the life of the fabric.

Illuminating the space are dozens of riser lights from the Trex® Outdoor Deck Lighting, installed into step risers to enhance safety and ambiance. From subtle accent lighting to functional pathway illumination, these energy-efficient, LED lighting fixtures from Trex integrate into the deck boards, rail posts and stairs, adding sophistication and safety to any outdoor environment.

Rounding out the Trex products used in the home’s backyard are kitchen components from the Trex® Outdoor Kitchens collection. Stainless steel cabinetry from the collection’s Veranda model in Midnight Matte offers a state-of-the-art culinary space on the deck just outside a pass-through to the home’s interior kitchen. A built-in bar across from the outdoor kitchen takes optimal advantage of the narrow space. On this deck, a side burner cabinet and grill cabinet provide plenty of working space, accented by a refrigerator and trash pull-out cabinet for easy food prep and cleanup. Beautiful, functional with myriad customization options, Trex Outdoor Kitchens gives homeowners the freedom to design to suit their own needs with a variety of door styles and a full palette of weather-resilient powder-coat wood grains and colors.

One unexpected touch is the living plant wall that greets guests at the home’s entry way. The walkway’s surface is also made from Lineage composite decking in Carmel which compliments the black metal roof and olive front door.

As one would expect from an HGTV® Smart Home, nothing is left undone. Functionality combined with beauty and innovation, create as beautiful an outdoor space as the interior. Thoughtfully curated zones extend this home’s living space outside, ensuring year-round enjoyment for some lucky homeowner.

The HGTV® Smart Home sweepstakes runs from April 19 through June 10. You can enter once a day on both HGTV.com and Foodnetwork.com.

*Although Trex Transcend Lineage is designed to be cooler than most other composite decking products of a similar color, on a hot sunny day, it will get hot. On hot days, care should be taken to avoid extended contact between exposed skin and the deck surface, especially with young children and those with special needs.
